Educators & Legislators

A group of Southwest Virginia educators and legislators will meet on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 to discuss education issues ahead of the 2012 General Assembly Session.

The event is being co-hosted by Delegate Greg Habeeb (R-Salem) and Region VI members of the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals and is from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the law offices of Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore in Downtown Roanoke.

Over 20 Educators representing 8 area school systems are scheduled to attend.

“This is a great opportunity for educators and legislators to sit down together and talk about the issues that will impact our public school system over the next year,” said Habeeb. “I want to thank everyone ahead of time for their commitment to our children and I look forward to a very productive meeting.”

Area legislators scheduled to attend include State Senators John Edwards and Ralph Smith, Delegates Greg Habeeb and Charles Poindexter, and Delegates-elect Joseph Yost, Chris Head and Nick Rush.

“Both elected officials and school administrators care deeply for the children of our Commonwealth,” said VASSP Region VI Director Scott Habeeb, an Assistant Principal at Salem High School. “We hope that this luncheon will foster stronger personal relationships and more open communication between these two groups, thereby increasing the likelihood that they will proactively work together in the future for the good of young people.”
